Easter Duty: one’s Easter Duty (the worthy reception of Holy Communion) should be completed by Trinity Sunday (26th May).

Anzac Day – Thursday, 25th April: the first Mass (at 8 am) will be a Low Requiem offered for the repose of the souls of deceased servicemen. It will be followed immediately by the Last Post. The second Mass (at 9.30 am) will be a Low Mass for St Mark. The third Mass (at 11 am) will be a Solemn Rogation Mass, followed by a Procession & the Litany of the Saints.

Children’s catechism: classes begin today (21st April) in the school hall, following Solemn Mass.

Liturgical catechesis will resume today (21st April), and is held in the school hall from 9.30 – 10.00 am every Sunday. We will be studying the text of the Ordinary of the Mass (that is, the unchanging parts). Doctrinal catechesis (for adults) will commence on Saturday, 27th April, and will be held in the school hall from 11.30 am – 12.30 pm. It is anticipated that this class will meet twice a month. The basic text will be Bishop Athanasius Schneider’s catechism, Credo (this is available for purchase from St John Henry’s book room). Registration is not required, but participants are expected to commit to regular attendance.

Bible Study, which takes place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, resumes this Tuesday 23rd April 6.00pm – 7.30pm in Saint Aloysius’ School Hall. We will continue our study of the early chapters of Saint Matthew’s Gospel. If you would like to register for the classes and be on the mailing list, please contact Father Murphy by email.

Latin Classes: it has been gratifying to see a high level of interest expressed in Latin classes. On the basis of the survey, classes will be on Saturdays at the school hall from 3.00 – 4.30 pm. Further details will be provided soon, including a course outline and start date. Registration will also be required. .

Save the date: luncheon for young couples & families on Saturday, 25th May.

Confirmation: the Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred by Bishop Elliott on Saturday, 27th July. Parents are now invited to register their children by contacting the Secretary. The usual age for Confirmation is 10-13. Any adults who have not been confirmed are also invited to register.

Easter offering envelopes: these are now available in the vestibule and in the pews. Your offerings are for the support of the priests who serve you in the Parish of St John Henry Newman. Envelopes may be placed in either collection. Thank you for your generosity.

Villa for Rent: 1-2 bedroom (second bedroom or study) villa for rent in Elsternwick. Please contact Fr Tattersall for more details.

Visit of Superior General of Institute of the Good Shepherd: Father Luis Gabriel Barrero, Superior General of the Institute of the Good Shepherd, to which Father Murphy belongs, will be visiting Australia in May. He will be accompanied by Father Matteusz Markievicz, the Secretary General of the same Institute, and a friend of the Parish. The intention of the visit is a pastoral visit to Father Murphy as well as building on connections across Australia. Father Barrero will celebrate the Solemn Mass on Sunday, 12th May. We look forward to receiving him, and to welcoming back Father Markiewicz.
